Connecting our community through history.

Welcome to the Swanton Historical Society’s website! Located in Swanton, Vermont, we are a dedicated group of locals passionate about preserving our town’s unique history. We work to protect Swanton’s landmarks, collect stories and artifacts, and create opportunities for the community to connect with its heritage.

Through events, exhibits, and educational programs, we share the stories that make Swanton special. We invite you to explore our work, join us in celebrating Swanton’s past, and help ensure its legacy for future generations.

Save the Bank Building

Help us preserve a piece of Swanton’s history by contributing to our $125,000 goal to restore a beautiful, historic building in the heart of town. This former bank is more than just a building; it’s a vital part of Swanton’s story. With your support, we can transform it into a community space for learning and celebrating our heritage, moving our collections out of storage and creating an inspiring home for Swanton’s history. Embrace small-town spirit and join us in protecting this treasure for future generations—your donation makes a lasting impact. We will be launching a fundraising campaign shortly.

Housed in a preserved railroad depot, the Ronald F. Kilburn Transportation Museum showcases Swanton’s transit history. Onsite is a historic caboose, a relocated toll house, and a railway turntable. With nearby walking trails, it’s a great place to spend an afternoon. Click below for hours and more info!
