The Flood of 1927.
The Flood of 1927 was a watershed event in Vermont's History. Late in the year, it started raining, and didn't stop for days. Communities on the eastern edge of Franklin County were hit very hard. Swanton was hit hard as well. Here are some photographs showing the devastation along the Missisquoi River.
2006 Flooding
In 2006, Swanton experienced a significant flood that caused damage to homes, roads, and local infrastructure. Heavy rains led to rising waters along the Missisquoi River, impacting low-lying areas and requiring emergency response efforts. The flood served as a reminder of the town’s history with natural disasters and the resilience of the community in rebuilding and preparing for future events.
